The child of a mother who smokes during pregnancy is at risk for a long list of harmful effects. The highly negative effects of smoking during pregnancy are not fully understood at this time. This article has focused mainly on the effects on the unborn baby but these same effects don't go away after birth. Indeed, it seems the consequences are far-reaching into the life of the child and even into adulthood. So you see, smoking during pregnancy has lifelong consequences on the child and many of which can be dire. This is why it is extremely important to quit smoking for the sake of both the mother and the baby.
